Improvement Scheme

Part of our programme of improvements (generally with value <£10m)

Cost:  £0.38 million (estimated)

Managed by:   Area 9

What is happening?

This work has been designed to tackle congestion by widening the carriageway, and improving road markings and road signs.

The work is part of the national pinch point programme . The pinch point programme forms part of the UK Government's growth initiative, outlined during the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement in November 2011.

When and where is this happening?

The work is located on the A5 Edgebold roundabout near Shrewsbury in Shropshire and is planned to start Spring 2014 for approximately 14 weeks.

Why is this happening and what will it cost?

This junction suffers from congestion with traffic queuing during peak time travel periods. The estimated cost is £0.38 million.

How will the scheme be carried out?

We will:

  • widen the side road approaches to the roundabout
  • realign the road markings; and
  • realign the road signs.

What are the benefits?

As part of the pinch point programme, this scheme aims to:

  • support the creation of 2,045 jobs and 1,810 homes by 2020
  • help to reduce daily congestion
  • reduce journey times for the travelling public
  • boost the economy
  • improve safety
