Transparency

The Health and Social Care Information Centre is committed to meeting the government's standards for transparency.

To support the government's commitment to transparency we will publish information which enables citizens to:

  • understand the basis of government decisions
  • understand how public sector organisations spend the money allocated to them
  • hold public sector organisations to account for their performance

Why do we publish this data?

The Prime Minister, in his letter (external) (Opens in a new window) to his cabinet colleagues, has made a number of commitments to greater data transparency in government. This includes the commitment to the publication on data.gov.uk (external) (Opens in a new window) of specific documents including:

  • Departmental spending data (from June 2010)
  • Salaries above £150,000 (from June 2010)
  • All new central government tender documents for contracts
