Carbon monoxide poisoning alert

As winter approaches, GPs are reminded to stay alert for patients with symptoms of carbon monoxide (CO) exposure. A diagnostic tool has been developed to help GPs identify CO poisoning, which is notoriously difficult to diagnose. The condition – usually caused by faulty cooking and heating appliances and other combustion sources – kills around 50 people in England and Wales each year and new DH figures show that A&Es diagnose around 4,000 people with the condition each year.
