A fourth interim evaluation report on the Department of Health’s pilot scheme for personal health budgets is now available. ‘Early experience of budget holders’ contains key insights for GPs – such as how patients expected their budget to lead to better health, improved morale and better motivation. A DVD has also been released, featuring a series of interviews from some of the patients taking part, including a woman who uses her personal health budget to manage her multiple sclerosis at home and reduce her time in hospital and a man who can now direct the 49 hours of care a week for his wife who suffers from Huntington’s Disease to suit her best.
