Response to the Lighthouse Medical Practice Patients Forum campaign

The Department of Health’s response to the Lighthouse Medical Practice Patients Forum campaign about Eastbourne District General Hospital (EDGH)

In line with the Government’s commitment to devolve power to communities, decisions about NHS services are essentially a matter for the NHS locally.  Ministers believe that people, patients, GPs and councils are best placed to determine the nature of their local NHS services.

However, the Forum’s concerns have been passed to East Sussex Downs and Weald Primary Care Trust’s communications team, who are the lead for the consultation on the future of EDGH.

The Department is advised that the campaign group ‘Save the EDGH’ has members at the Lighthouse Medical Practice, and the campaigners attended a recent patient group meeting to discuss this issue.  The Department is further advised that one of the GPs at the Lighthouse Medical Practice is on the board of the clinical commissioning group (CCG), and that Dr Martin Writer, Chair of the Eastbourne, Hailsham and Seaford CCG, has offered to discuss this issue with the Practice directly.
