Commencement of medical revalidation in the UK

The Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt announced on 19 October 2012 that revalidation for UK doctors will commence from December 2012.

Significant improvements have already been made in the preparation for revalidation to commence and these measures will improve quality and safety of care across the entire health sector. It is for responsible officers of designated bodies to implement revalidation in their own organisations. Medical directors are urged to encourage their boards to read the letter from Sir David Nicholson and Sir Bruce Keogh, which was sent to the service on 19 October 2012, accompanying the announcement by the Secretary of State for Health.
