  • Health Education England (HEE) and NHS Trust Development Authority (NTDA) legally established as SpHA (Special Health Authority)

Quarter 2: July- September 2012

July

  • National Patient Safety Agency NPSA abolished and functions transfer to NHS Commissioning Board (SpHA)
  • design of accountability framework for safeguarding children
  • launch of national physical activity campaign – Games4Life – as part of Olympics legacy
  • contracts for new National Institute for Health Research Patient Safety Translational Research Centres commence

September

  • majority of Local Authorities (LAs) move to shadow form of Health and Wellbeing Boards
  • national NHS staff survey
  • contracts for NIHR funding for Clinical Research Facilities for Experimental Medicine commence
  • Medical Education England (MEE) decommissioned
  • Outcome of the consultation on the social work bursary.

Quarter 3: October – December 2012

October

  • NHS Commissioning Board established as Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) and starts to authorise Clinical Commissioning Groups
  • start of Monitor taking on regulatory powers
  • Healthwatch England established
  • Appointments Commission abolished
  • functions transfer to NTDA
  • NTDA starts in shadow form
  • Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence (CHRE) becomes self funding
  • Closure of General Social Care Council
  • NHS Property Company in shadow form
  • selection panel meets to assess full applications for NIHR Healthcare Technology Co-operatives
  • HEE starts and begins authorisation process for Local Education and Training Boards

November

  • framework Agreements for NHS Commissioning Board,  CQC, PHE, NTDA, HEE approved by DH.
