School Direct is a new programme proposed in the 2011 DfE ITT Strategy paper Training Our Next Generation of Outstanding Teachers. It allows schools, or groups of schools, to apply to the Teaching Agency (TA) to be able to offer an initial teacher training (ITT) place, which they then work with an accredited ITT provider to deliver. School Direct is intended to help schools take a leading role in ITT and priority will be given to subjects with the greatest need.

This manual sets out the School Direct system and explains the mechanics which are designed to meet the main aims of School Direct.
