The Technology Strategy Board has announced the appointment of Simon Edmonds to the new role of Director, Catapults Programme.

Catapults are an exciting new development in UK innovation; physical centres where the best UK businesses, scientists and engineers work side by side on late-stage research and development, transforming proven ideas into new products and services to generate economic growth.

The Technology Strategy Board is leading the programme to establish the network of Catapults, as a world-leading resource and a powerful addition to its range of tools to drive innovation.

The appointment of a specific Director to oversee the Catapults programme is part of the strategy and implementation plan set out by the Technology Strategy Board.

Simon Edmonds brings to the Catapults programme a wealth of highly relevant experience, including 20 years in business, with a strong background in engineering and manufacturing and senior roles in general and technology management. In recent years he has been at BIS, where his roles included Director of Innovation and latterly Director of the Regional Growth Fund.

Commenting on the new role, Simon said “I am looking forward to joining the Technology Strategy Board and working with its talented group of people.  The programme to establish the Catapults is both challenging and exciting. I am looking forward to playing my part in setting up a network that will transform the pace of innovation, create growth and bring lasting benefit to UK plc for many years to come.”

Simon Edmonds will join the Technology Strategy Board, as a member of its Executive Management Team, in early January 2013.
