IC tomorrow brings consumer trials to Tech City Launchpad companies

06 May, 2011:  IC tomorrow, a Technology Strategy Board programme, will be setting up an office in east London, to enable small companies to test out creative and innovative technologies with consumers.

IC tomorrow unites content owners and application developers – for example, businesses with a new service, new business model, or a new technology, to trial ideas with a group of consumers.

These services complement the Tech City Launchpad competition, which opened on 6th May, and aims to support creative and digital businesses in east London. The Tech City Launchpad competition will see the Technology Strategy Board invest £1 million to support the growth of creative and digital businesses in the Tech City area around Old Street and Shoreditch in east London. Companies have the opportunity to apply for funding of up to £100,000 for their projects through a competition. The Technology Strategy Board will also help the companies find the match funding they need to deliver their ideas. Companies entering the Tech City Launchpad competition will also be introduced to IC tomorrow’s digital test bed programme.

As part of its support of creative and digital businesses, which already includes the Creative Industries Knowledge Transfer Network and the _connect platform for online networking, the Technology Strategy Board will be relocating the IC tomorrow team to east London in the summer. Here it will provide commitment and support to help create a world-leading technology centre.

Nick Appleyard, Head of Digital at the Technology Strategy Board, said: “By combining the work we do at IC tomorrow with the opportunities on offer in the Tech City Launchpad competition, we’re coordinating our support to innovative and creative companies. To add to the possibility of funding, exposure to private investors, and guidance from our assessors, these innovators can now also get real-world, relevant feedback directly from consumers. And by ourselves being in the midst of the action and working alongside the Tech City initiative, we can support the success of east London and of the whole of the UK.”

Digital content providers participating in the IC tomorrow programme include: Beggars Group, Crytek UK, EMI Music, Endemol, Faber & Faber, FremantleMedia, Getty Images, Haymarket Media Group, Lionsgate, PRS For Music, Sony Music, The Orchard, The British Library, Universal Music and Warner Music.
