A unique test facility comes online from today, allowing businesses to test new digital services and run trials with consumers in a dedicated area of the internet.

IC tomorrow, developed by the Technology Strategy Board, enables content owners and application developers - any business with a new service, new business model or new way of deploying hardware or software technology - to trial their ideas on British consumers.

Initiated by the 2009 Digital Britain report, which tasked the Technology Strategy Board to establish next generation digital test beds for new products and services, IC tomorrow brings - uniquely - product and service developers and programmers together with content providers and gives them access to real users, all within a purpose-built, experimental environment.

While IC tomorrow is a purpose-built online testing ground where companies of all sizes can trial their new products, it provides registered public users with the opportunity to try out applications and services, giving potential consumers the opportunity to provide feedback and shape products before they go on sale.

A wide range of content providers, such as Sony Music, Getty Images and Crytek UK, have already agreed to participate in IC tomorrow and will make some of their content available, allowing product and service developers to consider how they may build new services and find innovative new ways to use and commercialise the content.

Speaking at today's launch of IC tomorrow at the Innovate10 networking event and exhibition in London, Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, said:

The IC tomorrow platform is a facility for the benefit of British businesses and is open to everyone.  Businesses register their web applications, data, business services etc and set up the terms on which their contribution is available.  This is assembled into a consumer-facing offer, which is then accessed by registered users.  Consumers' use of the trials and their comments are fed back to the companies, with IC tomorrow ensuring the privacy of individuals' user data.
