Recently Chris has been announced as the next Chief Executive Officer of the Yorkshire Building Society – the UK’s second largest building society, where he is due to start in post in January 2012. As well as the Yorkshire; the group includes the Barnsley, Chelsea and Norwich & Peterborough societies.
Until this appointment, Chris spent the past nearly six years at HSBC. His most recent role was as Head of Customer Service and Sales for the HSBC National Branch Network, managing the banking and wealth management needs of 11 million customers from 1300 branches.
Prior to this role, Chris was leading the development of the ‘HSBC Securekey’ programme, now being rolled out in the UK to deliver market leading security for approximately 5 million HSBC online customers.
Chris initially joined HSBC as the Chief Executive of first direct in Spring of 2006, moving onto the broader role as Head of Direct Banking for HSBC in 2008, managing the approximately 350 million customer contacts from HSBC & first direct’s telephone and internet business.
Prior to joining first direct, Chris spent his entire career in Marketing, Sales and Customer Service roles. The first part of Chris’s career was in ‘FMCG’ manufacturing , spending 7 years with Procter & Gamble and then Kraft Foods on Brands such as Ariel, Daz, Vidal Sassoon, Philadelphia and Vitalite.
The second part of his career was spent in some well known customer service companies such as UK General Manager of Marketing and Customer Relations at British Airways, and most recently as Marketing and Customer Service Director at the UK’s second largest retailer ASDA/Wal*Mart.
Chris lives in Yorkshire, where he is married to Mary and is the proud father of two daughters.
