“The Government believes that Britain must always be an active member of the global community, promoting our national interests while standing up for the values of freedom, fairness and responsibility.” (Coalition Programme for Government).

HM Treasury aims to advance the UK’s economic and financial interests both in the European Union (EU) and internationally by formulating the UK’s economic and financial priorities and working with other departments to deliver them.

A strong and sustainable global economy is crucial to the economic stability and prosperity of the UK. A key element of this work involves HM Treasury working with key international institutions and intergovernmental groupings including the European Union, G7, G20 and the International Monetary Fund to further the UK’s interests. HM Treasury also provides economic analysis at a country, regional and global level and works with other government departments to take forward a range of issues including anti-money laundering, asset freezing, climate change, energy and development.
