Publication of annual updates

The first annual updates from 187 Responsibility Deal partners have now been published, and are available in the ‘View partners, their delivery plans and their annual updates by pledge’ section in ‘pledges’.

These updates provide the first opportunity for partners to set out the progress they have made in delivering their pledges.

The Deal was launched on 15 March 2011 with 19 collective pledges and 176 partners, 141 of whom have now submitted updates on these original pledges.

Partners who signed up to the Deal after the launch were also invited to submit annual updates if they wished.  46 of these partners have submitted updates. The remaining partners will provide their first annual updates next year.

The first annual updates for the new calorie reduction and alcohol unit reduction pledges will be available in summer 2013.

Over 390 organisations are now signed up to the Responsibility Deal, including one fifth of FTSE100 companies.

In the year since the launch we have seen the number of partners more than double – now at over 390 with three quarters from industry – and new partners are signing up to the 24 collective pledges every week.

19 FTSE100 companies are signed up to the Deal including household names such as AstraZeneca, BP, BT Group, Compass Group, Marks & Spencer, Rolls-Royce, RBS and Whitbread.

The vast work being undertaken by partners across all the four networks is helping people across the country to live healthier lives. However, this isn’t going to happen overnight – this is a marathon not a sprint.  Our approach recognises that working to support people in changing their behaviour is the way to achieve real results.

As the Deal builds momentum our RD Chairs and Ministers are committed to signing up as many organisations as possible, as well as encouraging existing partners to dig deeper and get bigger results. But we are determined that ALL organisations play their part in improving public health and not just count on the actions of the usual committed companies.

Case studies

The following case studies illustrate the varied and innovative ways that partners are delivering on their pledges on alcohol, food, health at work and physical activity.
