The Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) has gained approval by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to grant Certificates of Equivalence and Attainment, leading to eligibility for registration as a Clinical Scientist.
The approval means the AHCS can now grant Certificates of Attainment to trainees who successfully complete the Modernising Scientific Careers Scientist Training Programme. This will enable these trainees to be registered as a Clinical Scientist by the HCPC.
Equivalence assessment allows individuals who have relevant qualifications, skills and experience to gain exemption from parts of training or even be judged equivalent in competency to someone who has been through a full training programme. The process is expected to work across the healthcare science workforce so that someone can use the process to enter or progress through any level of the workforce. Equivalence assessment will start in October 2012 for those working at Scientist level, with Practitioner level due to follow in 2013.
