16 Sep 2011

The Technology Strategy Board ( is to provide funding totalling £220,000 to four more short-term collaborative projects that will research and develop new metadata production tools.

This is the final round of grant funding to be awarded through a major, three-strand, Technology Strategy Board-managed competition which aims to encourage the creation of tools that make the production of content such as film, music and computer games more cost-effective, less risky and yield greater value through new advanced uses of metadata.

The four consortia awarded the latest funding are led by Backflip Limited, Blast Theory, Clusta Ltd and Skyworks Ltd.

In August the Technology Strategy Board announced that it would offer grant funding totalling £3m to nine major development projects.  These grants spanned the breadth of the creative industries and were awarded to companies working in architecture, design, fashion, film, television, computer games and publishing.  And in June the Technology Strategy Board agreed to provide £182,000 to four short-term collaborative projects.
