03 October 2012 - NESTA Launch New Digital R&D Fund for the Arts in England

The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) is inviting bids to the new Digital Research & Development Fund for the Arts in England.

The Digital R&D Fund for the Arts is a new £7 million fund for organisations with arts projects based in England working in collaboration with technology providers and researchers.

The Fund will support new digital research and development projects that use digital technology to enhance audience reach and/or explore new business models for organisations with arts projects.

Expressions of Interest are being invited from:

  • Organisations that have an arts project working in collaboration with a technology provider and a researcher.
  • Organisations that have an arts project that are working collaboratively with a technology provider who have not yet identified a research partner.
  • Researchers who are interested in partnering with organisations working with a technology provider who have not identified their research partner(s).

All arts and cultural organisations in England may apply, including:

  • Performing and visual arts organisations.
  • Arts and cultural archives.
  • Literary organisations.
  • Museums.
  • Libraries.
  • Galleries.

Funding can be used for a range of projects, both small and large; however, no one project will receive more than £125,000.

The new fund comes on the heels of the successful pilot Digital R&D Fund for Arts and Culture which ran earlier this year. It is a partnership between the Arts Council England, the Arts and Humanities Research Council (ARHC) and NESTA.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis during the lifetime of the fund, until the closing date of 30 December 2013.

For information on briefing sessions and full details about the new fund, visit the NESTA website (opens new window).
