Reference checkers

It is important to ensure you use the right reference number when making tax, National Insurance contributions (NICs) or other payments to HMRC. If you use the wrong number or input it incorrectly your payment will be delayed and this could lead to penalty and interest charges.

To check that your HMRC reference number is correct before making a payment to us, please select the type of payment you wish to make from the list below and then enter your reference in the box provided.

HMRC references are fixed in length and structured in a way that makes them unique to you. It is vital that a reference is provided with each payment that you make to HMRC to ensure that the payment reaches your account promptly.
