The Power of One the Power of Many - Bringing Social Movement Thinking to Healthcare Improvement

Estimates suggest that 15-20% of NHS staff are engaged in quality improvement work in order to try and meet the goals as set out in the NHS Plan, however achievement of these goals may require 80 or 100% of staff engagement. There are similar transformational ambitions internationally, which now make higher levels of engagement - as facilitated by social movement thinking - of universal interest.

Evidence from social sciences suggest that other perspectives may compliment improvement thinking and practice in order to drive and sustain change through engaging with the individuals' core values and mobilising their own internal energies and drivers for change.

This guide aims to provide knowledge and demonstrate how ‘social movement' approaches have been used to deliver improvement at previously unseen levels of depth and scale - which can be utilised and adapted in order to unleash the energy in your organisation.
