There are 4 rates of National Minimum Wage, depending on your age and whether you’re an apprentice.

Rate Who gets it
£6.08/hour Workers aged 21 and over
£4.98/hour Workers aged 18-20
£3.68/hour Workers above school leaving age but under 18
£2.60/hour Apprentices under 19 or in the 1st year of their apprenticeship

From 1 October 2012, the National Minimum Wage will increase for:

  • Workers aged 21 and over - from £6.08/hour to £6.19/hour
  • Apprentices - from £2.60/hour to £2.65/hour
