Foster care TSD standards: Closure of CWDC online systems to new users from 9 January 2012
The Department for Education (DfE) have agreed that they will maintain the strategic lead for foster care work when CWDC closes in April 2012.  This includes the (TSD) Standards for foster carers.  All foster carers continue to be required to complete the TSD Standards within 12 months of approval (or 18 months for family and friends foster carers). Information for foster care providers

The Training, Support and Development (TSD) standards help to ensure your foster carers are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to do their best for the children in their care. The standards should give you peace of mind and support you to offer consistently high quality care provision.

The completion of the TSD Standards is written into the revised National Minimum Standards 2011.

It’s your responsibility to ensure that all of your registered foster carers have completed the TSD standards by 30 April 2011. You’ll also need to support any new foster carers to complete the standards within 12 months of their approval.

When we launched the TSD standards in 2007 the deadline for existing carers to complete was set at April 2011 rather than 12 months. This was to provide you with enough time and flexibility to implement the standards.

Support and guidance

We’re bringing together some of the most useful tips, tools and resources from the last few years to provide you with additional support in these remaining months. View the latest foster care TSD newsletter or register your details to receive future editions.

There are a range of new support materials, case studies and examples of good practice on these pages for your foster carers and supervisors. Don’t forget to point them in this direction if they’re having any problems.

If you have a general enquiry about the Standards, ring our information line on 0300 123 1033.
