CWDC News - November 2011

We are pleased to confirm in this edition of CWDC News that we've found secure homes for all our core business beyond next March.

As many of you know, the government announced last year it would be withdrawing our funding after this financial year. Since then, we have been working hard with colleagues at the Department for Education (DfE) to make sure our work continues.

We have now agreed the leadership of our programmes will be taken forward by either DfE or the Children's Improvement Board (CIB) from April 2012 onwards.

DfE will also take on our extensive social work programme. In addition, our early years and educational psychology programmes will move to the Teaching Agency - one of four new executive agencies created by DfE.

DfE will also maintain the strategic lead for our sector leadership programme. This includes work with foster carers and short break carers, the young people's workforce, those working in residential care and people working with parents and families with multiple and complex needs.

It also includes our activity to support safer recruitment, child poverty and leadership and management for children's services.

We have also agreed with DfE that our integrated working programme will be led by CIB.

Jane Haywood, Chief Executive, said:

"Our commitment to stakeholders remains as strong as ever, as does our commitment to working to improve outcomes for children, young people and families.

"I am immensely proud that our core business continues to be recognised and valued by government, employers and the workforce. I am confident the arrangements we have made will ensure this continues for years to come."
