Yorkshire Forward funded maths project a huge success

Introduction

  • Positive feedback from both teachers and children
  • Now recommended to be rolled out nationally
  • Increased maths skills has a direct impact on the current and future prosperity of the region

Summary

Funded and managed from Yorkshire Forward’s STEM Programme, Cre8ate Maths aim is to reduce the number of young people in our region who don’t have the appropriate mathematical skills. It also provides teachers with the opportunity for professional growth through their involvement in creating curriculum resources.

It has been such a huge success that one teacher said that he felt the most enthusiastic about teaching as he had ever done since his career started and that the project had helped him get his passion back for teaching maths. The Dept for Children. Schools & Families has recently asked their National strategy regional maths advisers to recommend Cre8ate Maths resources to every school in the country.

One recent Cre8ate Maths event was delivered to Key Stage 3 pupils to support maths learning within Sports Technology sector (Sheffield Hallam University/English Institute of Sport). Over 300 children from 17 schools attended this full day event. The pictures on this page are taken at this event.

The STEM Programme (which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and its projects are aimed at increasing the level of student participation, achievement and progression, alongside providing development opportunities for teachers.
