Gérard School of Football

The Enterprise Centre at the University of Hull is now home to GSF, the North of England Premier Football School, run by a young entrepreneur.

In 2009, at the age of just 19, Gérard Jones co-founded the Gérard School of Football (GSF) in Hull. He raised the funds by coaching in the local community, including running development centres for girls aged from 6 to 10.

Now a limited company, GSF is based at the state-of-the-art, purpose-built Enterprise Centre at the University of Hull. According to Gérard, “None of this would have happened without the help and support of the Enterprise Centre, which has provided me with an excellent base to start my business and allow me to establish a professional image from day one.”

GSF has grown to become the North of England Premier Football School, providing specialist football coaching to boys and girls aged 8 to 14. The curriculum is based on tried-and-tested methods used by top professionals and involves an innovative programme called Passport to Success, designed to help develop each player’s technical, physical and mental attributes. Young people are helped to develop their life skills, mental conditioning, enterprise skills, performance, educational advantage, nutrition, communication skills and physical conditioning.

The school has found sponsorship to provide scholarships for talented children whose parents can’t afford coaching, as well as for an awards programme.

Gérard is now an Enterprise UK ambassador and a youth board member at icould. GSF supports the Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership and Gérard is a guest speaker for Enterprising People, which inspires and engages young people.
