A Tripartite Working Group, consisting of chairs and members of the UK Advisory Panel for Healthcare Workers Infected with Blood-borne Viruses, the Advisory Group on Hepatitis and the Expert Advisory Group was set up to review the current policy on restrictions for healthcare workers (HCWs) infected with blood-borne virus, such as HIV, hepatitis B or hepatitis C performing any exposure prone procedure.

Following consideration of the scientific evidence presented, the Working Group published its report in April 2011 recommending that restrictions on HIV-infected HCWs be relaxed if certain conditions are met.
