David Nicholson, Chief Executive of the National Health Service (NHS) in England

Sir David Nicholson KCB CBE is Chief Executive of the National Health Service and sits on the Departmental Board.

About Sir David Nicholson: Started in the NHS as a management trainee, having graduated from the University of Bristol. His career in the National Health Service spans over 31 years.

Has held leadership positions in acute and mental health services, and at four regional health authorities. Was Chief Executive of the NHS in London before becoming Chief Executive of the NHS in England.

Was awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2004. Awarded a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) in the 2010 New Year’s Honours.

Has been Chief Executive of the National Health Service in England since 2006.
