Advisory Group on the NHS (Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations

The Health Bill 2009 which received Royal Assent in November 2009 contained proposals to:

- require primary care trusts to develop and publish pharmaceutical needs assessments (PNAs); and
- then to use PNAs as the basis for determining market entry to NHS pharmaceutical services provision
- to introduce new quality requirements for contractors.

Subject to Parliamentary approval, regulations are needed to translate these proposals into reality.  An Advisory Group on the NHS (Pharmaceutical Services) Regulations is undertaking this task and is drawn from leading interested parties. Regulations requiring primary care trusts to develop and publish PNAs came into force in May 2010
