Appointed Dean of the Arches and Master of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury in 1710 on the death of Sir John Cooke (Book of Dignities, p. 253 [1851]), holding both positions until his death on 17 December 1751 (The London Magazine p. 668 [1752]).

The will (PROB 11/792) of John Bettesworth, Doctor of Laws, Dean and Official Principal of the Arches and Master of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury was proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury on 2 January 1752 and is available at DocumentsOnline

N.B. His son, also John Bettesworth, was Chancellor of the Diocese of London.
