Freedom of information

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act enables you to get information held by public bodies like us.

Getting information

You can get information in two ways:

  • through our FOI publication scheme – which tells you what information is readily available to you and where you can access it.
  • by your general right of access – which enables you to get information that may not be readily available.

Download our Publication scheme for more information.

If the information you want is not in the publication scheme, you can make a request under the FOI Act.

We will usually respond within 20 working days of receiving your request.

However, we may need to extend this deadline if we have to contact you about your request, or (in very rare circumstances) if we must first consider issues of public interest.

You will be notified if this is the case.

More information

We can withhold information if we need to, but we will always give you reason for doing so.

Under the FOI Act, we can also refuse to confirm or deny holding certain information.

We may consult with other people or organisations before providing you with the information you request. This usually happens when you have requested information that has been provided to us by another organisation.

Unhappy with our response?

If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your FOI request, please let us know and give us your reasons. We will respond to you in writing.

If you are still unhappy following your appeal, you can contact The Information Commissioner at the address below:
