Core Strategy

The Core Strategy Development Plan Document (Core Strategy) was adopted on 17 June 2010 by a resolution of the Full Council. The minutes of the meeting are available here. The Adoption Statement can be viewed here.

The Core Strategy is the first document to be adopted as part of the Borough Council’s Local Development Framework. It is a strategic planning document which provides the overarching principles for development in the Borough to 2026. The Town Centres Area Action Plan; Allocations DPD; and Development Control Policies DPD, which are also to be prepared, must be in general conformity with it.

The Council is one of the first to adopt a DPD since the change in Government. In making its decision to adopt the Core Strategy, the Council considered recent announcements and changes to national policy made by the Coalition Government and in response it also resolved to immediately commence a review of the Core Strategy to consider specific elements of the document, primarily related to reducing housing targets and ensuring the protection of the Green Belt until 2026. This page will be updated regularly when new information becomes available.
