Motorcyclists represent just 1% of all road use nationally, yet account for 18% of injuries in 2007.

Motorcycling can be fun. It can also be dangerous if it is not given the respect it deserves.

During the period of January 2005 to December 2007, there were over nine thousand road traffic collisions in West Mercia which resulted in personal injury. in respect of motorcycle involvement, there were 1227 recorded collisions.

  • 809 of these collisions resulted in a slight injury
  • 362 resulted in serious injury and
  • 56 resulted in fatal injuries.

Collisions involving motorcycles represented 15% of all recorded collisions in West Mercia. One in Four of the collisions resulted in death or serious injury involved motorcycles.
