Story of London

SkylonThe third Story of London festival runs from 1-31 August 2011. This year the festival celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain, which was held to show a progressive view of post-war Britain and showcase contemporary design and innovation.

London museums are hosting displays and recreating some of the activities that took place in their boroughs in 1951 so you can relive the original festival and enjoy retro events with a 21st century spin.

The festival is being curated by the Museum of London and presented in partnership with the Southbank Centre.

The festival culminates on Sunday 28 August when participating venues hold bite-sized versions of their events at the Southbank Centre.  The day will include dance workshops, puppet shows, craft sessions, girl pipers, comic opera and will be topped off with a commemorative floral bicycle parade!

Join us for the floral bicycle parade (following a circuit around the Southbank Centre) and get creative decorating bikes, trikes, scooters, prams, buggies and unicycles with flowers, plants, vegetables, mascots and handmade banners and decorations.  Be as wild and wacky as you like with your ideas and use recycled materials and homegrown plants.  Come in fancy dress or decorate your outfits and bicycle helmets.  More information about the floral bicycle parade.
