Air Alert is targeted at people with respiratory health problems who may be affected by air pollution. The day before a pollution incident is predicted the registered user is sent a voice or text message via a mobile, home telephone or email. They can then take actions that might reduce any related symptoms.

Between November 2010 and 2015, Southern Water are installing water meters across the city. This work is part of a national drive to protect water resources in areas identified as being “water stressed” where the supplies are less able to meet demand.
