Use of data for excellence

Using the school census return, alongside attainment data, can contribute to a more inclusive identification process for gifted and talented (G&T) provision. Using a targeted approach to supporting under-performing groups of pupils can be a highly effective method for raising expectations and aspirations through target-setting and personalised intervention. Identifying a small pilot or target group of pupils is a flexible but sharply focused way of managing change.

This series of pages will support:

  • the gifted and talented (G&T) leading teacher (LT)
  • staff engaged in identification of gifted and talented pupils
  • staff who are responsible for setting pupil targets.

Senior and middle leaders can reflect on the examples of practice, and tools, which may be transferable to their own context.
