Working together

This topic supports pupils in learning the skills that are required to work and learn effectively in collaborative groups. The topic should provide opportunities for pupils to explore the function and importance of rules and roles in group and team contexts, to develop their empathy with other group members, explore the impact of different types of behaviour on individuals and the effectiveness of the group, and develop negotiation and collaborative processes.

These could be achieved through practical and experiential activities, reflection, peer- and self-assessment (including, where appropriate, video feedback) and target setting.

This topic is designed to help young people to:

  • understand the needs of other group members
  • work effectively in a group situation
  • listen and respond to others
  • use assertive communication techniques
  • cooperate, negotiate and compromise as appropriate.
