Provider choice: pitfalls and opportunities

Jeremy Taylor, chief executive of National Voices, talks about the possibility of introducing greater choice of providers: ‘Can we find a way of getting more people into the provision of services that make a big difference to the quality of people’s lives? There are pitfalls but there seems to be a huge opportunity if we can get it right.’

He was speaking at a workshop ‘Any qualified provider – exploring the benefits for patient care’, held on 25 March 2011, which gave voluntary sector organisations and patient advocates the opportunity to discuss how the introduction of greater choice of provider might bring benefits for patients and carers.

The outcomes of this workshop and subsequent follow-up events will be fed into the NHS Future Forum.
