England Implementation Group

16 September 2009

Ministers announced today the dissolution of the England Implementation Group (EIG).

Defra is grateful for the EIG’s valuable contribution, since its creation in 2005, in helping deliver the Animal Health and Welfare Strategy.  The EIG brought people together to discuss health and welfare, facilitated the development of Strategy Sector Councils and stimulated the responsibility and cost sharing debate.

Building on the EIG’s legacy, Defra, led by the Chief Veterinary Officer, wants to work more closely with the Sector Councils. We are also very pleased to see that three ex-EIG members have joined Rosemary Radcliffe’s Responsibility and Cost Sharing Advisory Group, as announced today.

We are also publishing David Eves’ review of the EIG completed at the end of last year.  Ministers considered David’s recommendations but their decision took account of the changing landscape of stakeholder groups.

The EIG’s webpages will be retained by Defra for the foreseeable future as part of the archive of the group’s work.
