Water White Paper

water droplets

We are developing a Water White Paper to be published by early summer 2011.

Why are we doing this?

We want a strong and sustainable green economy. Defra has committed to publishing a Water White Paper by early summer 2011 as part of the Department’s Business plan.

It will reflect the conclusions of the Ofwat review which was announced on 26 August. It will also set out the Government’s conclusions on:

The Water White Paper will focus on the future challenges facing the water industry providing a clear direction and policy framework for the future.

On 9 September 2010 we launched an online survey seeking views from organizations and interested individuals ahead of the publication of the White Paper.  This survey closed on 30 November 2010. We received 800 responses.  A short summary of these responses will be published in early 2011.

Next steps

We are organizing a number of workshops in early 2011 that will offer interested parties the opportunity to input to the development of the White Paper.

We will also be consulting further on the key issues arising from Anna Walker’s Review of charging for household water and sewerage services.
