EU Ban on Trade in Eels (Anguilla anguilla)

On 3 December the EU established a zero export quota for the trade European Eels (Anguilla anguilla) until the end of 2011. This effectively bans the export of Anguilla anguilla from the EU. The zero export quota applies to European eels of all ages and any parts or derivatives. With some limited exceptions (imports of eels from Tunisia in 2010), no further imports will be accepted of European eels (and their parts and derivatives) into the EU. Anguilla anguilla is currently listed on Annex B of the European CITES regulations.
