Peter Hendy

Peter Hendy CBE (Chair),
Peter Hendy was appointed Commissioner of Transport for London in 2006, having previously served as TfL's Managing Director, Surface Transport. He was formerly Deputy Director, UK Bus for FirstGroup and previously served as Managing Director of CentreWest London Buses, taking it from public ownership through privatisation in a management/staff buyout. He was also responsible for New World First Bus in Hong Kong for FirstGroup from 1998-2000.

David Leeder

David Leeder (Vice-Chair),
David Leeder is an independent investor in the transport sector. He has held a variety of director-level posts in transport operators in the UK, EU and USA. From 2001 until 2008 he was a Main Board and executive director of bus and rail operator First Group plc. In 1993 he joined bus operator Travel West Midlands, rising to become Chief Executive Officer. Following the merger of TWM with National Express Group plc he joined the executive board of National Express and later became Group Marketing Director. His other transport experience includes posts at British Rail, The MVA Consultancy and Transit Holdings Group.

Dr Lynn Sloman

Dr Lynn Sloman (Vice-Chair),
Lynn Sloman is a partner in specialist consultancy, Transport for Quality of Life, which works with public sector and voluntary sector bodies to develop sustainable transport policies and practices. She is a Board Member of Cycling England and an Honorary Senior Research Associate at UCL Centre for Transport Studies. She was formerly Special Advisor to the Board of Transport for London and Assistant Director of the environmental organisation, Transport 2000 (now Campaign for Better Transport) for 10 years until 2002 and is a former trustee of the Environmental Transport Association.

Dr Harry Bush

Dr Harry Bush CB,
Dr Harry Bush was appointed Group Director of Economic Regulation for the UK Aviation Industry at the Civil Aviation Authority in 2003. Prior to joining the CAA, Harry had a 23 year career at the UK Treasury. From 1993, he worked on privatisation and public/private partnership issues and, from 1997, on improving the UK's micro-economic performance, including policies towards enterprise, science and competition. Harry was a Director of the European Investment Bank from 2002 to 2003.

Graham Dalton

Graham Dalton,
Graham Dalton was appointed Chief Executive of the Highways Agency in June 2008. Graham is a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and joined Mouchel in 1988 as a Principal Engineer, working in the UK and abroad, including Qatar and Kuwait. Hemoved to the Department for Transport in 2005 as Director of Projects (National Networks), responsible for the delivery of major rail investment projects including the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, the West Coast Route Modernisation programme and Thameslink.

Philip Davis

Philip Davis,
Philip Davis was formerly leader of Telford & Wrekin borough and chaired the West Midlands Regional Assembly. He is an experienced transport consumer advocate and sits on the West Midlands Regional Transport Partnership. He has a professional background in human resources and employment law and has sat on a number of national adjudicatory bodies. He is a member of the national Passenger Focus Board and founder chair of transport users' group, Travelwatch midlands west. He currently chairs an NHS provider organisation.

Gerry Doherty

Gerry Doherty,
Gerry Doherty was elected as the General Secretary of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) in February 2004. He began his career as a Clerical Officer with ScotRail in 1975. Gerry then worked as TSSA's Irish Secretary based in Dublin covering the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland until 1995, when he became the TSSA's Divisional Officer for the British Railways Board HQ. Since 1998, Gerry has worked as a Development Manager in London leading a team of negotiators representing members in a number of rail companies.

Carolyn Dwyer

Carolyn Dwyer,
Carolyn Dwyer is Divisional Director (Public Realm) at the London Borough of Lambeth, having previously been Assistant Director of Transport and Waste at East Sussex County Council. Carolyn previously worked at Brighton and Hove City Council where, as Assistant Director of Sustainable Transport, she worked in partnership with the Brighton and Hove Bus & Coach Company to deliver award-winning bus services, and led the authority to win the Transport Authority of the Year award.

Garrett Emmerson

Garrett Emmerson,
Garrett Emmerson is Chief Operating Officer Streets and Traffic - London Streets. Previously, he was a director of consultants, Steer Davies Gleave, taking up this position having been Head of Transportation at Buckinghamshire County Council. Garrett is also chair of the Milton Keynes and South Midlands Transport Board.

Paul Godier

Paul Godier,
Paul Godier was formerly Chief Executive of Bournemouth Borough Council. Previously, he spent 6 years at the Greater London Council before starting his career with London Transport (LT) in 1978. Whilst at LT, Paul undertook roles including safety and operations, transport planning and investment appraisal. He was appointed London Underground Director of Customer Service (Trains) in 1999 and Managing Director in 2001.

Terry Hill

Terry Hill,
Terry Hill is the Chairman of the Transport Policy Group of the CBI. The CBI is the UK's top business lobby group. He leads the transport market of the Arup Group, the global planning, design and business consultancy. With a background in engineering and economics, his 40 years of experience ranges from strategy development to major project delivery, all in the transport sector.

Helen Holland

Cllr Helen Holland,
Cllr Helen Holland has been an elected member of Bristol City Council since 1991 andledon Transport, Planning and Regeneration from 1997 - 2003. Shewas elected asLeader ofthe Labour Group of the Council in 2005, andLeader of the Council 2007 - 09.She won the national local transport personality of the year award in 2001 and was made a Fellow of the Institutionof Highways and Transportation in 2002. Helen is a Deputy Leader ofthe South West RegionalAssembly. A former primary teacherand thenlecturer at the City of Bristol College.

Shona Johnstone

Cllr Shona Johnstone,
Cllr Shona Johnstone has been a Cambridgeshire County Councillor since 1993. She is also a member of the Local Government Association's Regeneration and Transport Board. During her time with the County Council, Shona spent 7 years as Lead Member for Environment and Transport. In 2007, she held the position of leader of the County Council. Shona is also a Trustee of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and a Board Member of the East of England Development Agency.

Roger Jones

Roger Jones,
Roger Jones is a councillor on Salford City Council and the former Chairman of Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (2001-08).

Paul Plummer

Paul Plummer,
Paul Plummer joined Network Rail in October 2002 as Director of Planning & Regulation and joined the Network Rail Board in October 2008. He is responsible for planning the development of the network, business planning, relationships with government and economic regulation. From 1999 to 2001, he was Chief Economist and Director of Economics and Finance at the Office of Rail Regulation. Paul has previously worked at National Economic Research Associates (NERA), NM Rothschild and Accenture where he advised companies, regulators and governments on business strategy, restructuring, privatisation, corporate finance and regulation in the utilities sector.

Dai Powell,
Chair of the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee. Chief Executive of Hackney Community Transport, and Chair of Community Transport Organisation (UK).

Michael Roberts

Michael Roberts,
Michael Roberts joined the Association of Train Operating Companies as Chief Executive in April 2008. Previously, he worked at the Confederation of British Industry from 1991, first as a Transport Policy Adviser and then Head of Industrial Policy, before becoming Director of Business Environment in July 2000. Before moving to the CBI, Michael worked for political consultants, Decision Makers. Michael was also a non-executive Director at the Carbon Trust from 2001-2008.

Neil Scales

Neil Scales OBE,
Neil Scales is Chief Executive and Director General of Merseytravel. Before joining Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive, he was an independent Transport and Engineering Consultant working inter-alia for the World Bank, the European Commission on various transportation projects in Europe and as an Expert Witness for a number of clients in the UK. Other roles have included Managing Director of Northern Counties Motor & Engineering Company Ltd, Director of Engineering for GM Buses Ltd and various engineering roles within Tyne & Wear Passenger Transport Executive.

Dr Andrew Sentance

Dr Andrew Sentance,
Dr Andrew Sentance is an external member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England, appointed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in 2006. He is also a part-time Professor of Sustainable Business at the University of Warwick. Before joining the Bank of England, Andrew was Chief Economist and Head of Environmental Affairs at British Airways. He joined British Airways in 1998 from London Business School, where he was Director of the Centre for Economic Forecasting.Former roles include Head of Economic Policy and Director of Economic Affairs at the Confederation of British Industry.

Corinne Swain

Corinne Swain OBE,
Corinne Swain is a Fellow at Arup, the international consultancy. She is also an Examination in Public Panel Chair for the independent testing of regional spatial strategies appointed by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. She has chaired many Examinations throughout England, including of the South East Plan in 2006-07. She is also a member of the Mayor's Outer London Commission, and a member of the National Planning Forum. Corinne's early career was in local government and the British Airports Authority.

Richard Turner

Richard Turner OBE,
Richard Turner is a chartered civil engineer and transport planner. He is currently a Planning Committee Member of the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation, Board and Council member of the Institution of Highways and Transportation and Trustee of the Road Safety Foundation. Richard spent the early part of his career planning, designing and building infrastructure including part of the M1. He joined the Freight Transport Association in 1973 and was appointed Chief Executive from 2001 until June 2007.
