Paddington Station, Phase 1

The refurbishment of Paddington Station has improved and updated the main concourse, platforms, shed roof and the historic building facades. Designed by Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners.

A new insertion has also been built at the south eastern end of the station shed.

This new space, The Lawn, is a light and airy structure constructed in steel and glass. It is located on the site of the original station master's house and garden, where the 19th century engineer Brunel had placed the turntables for the station he designed. It accommodates passenger check-in facilities, a waiting area, a new retail court with shopping and banking facilities and a range of places to eat
