Raunds and Irthlingborough Townscape Improvements

Two small urban design interventions had a disproportionately positive impact on the town centres of Raunds and Irthlingborough.

East Northamptonshire Council undertook townscape improvement projects in Raunds and Irthlingborough with a budget of under £1.75 million for both projects.

The townscape improvement initiative sought to develop the civic space of both town centres through public realm and urban design improvements. The work was commissioned through an open competition and was undertaken by Atkins Environmental in Irthlingborough and Letts Wheeler Architects in Raunds.

A CABE enabler supported the client group from the start through to the detailed design and choice of materials. CABE’s advice focused on visioning, brief preparation, procurement and technical advice.

Both projects were completed in 2008.
