Public Sector Information Holder: National Health Service

Information Asset: List of medicines available for prescription

The problem

This information is not available online, but should be in the public domain

My ideal solution

A database of all prescribable products via the NHS

What I would do

Use it for non-profit research (we need a list of medicines for research participants to select which medicines they have been prescribed)

NHS organisational entities as a RESTful service

Public Sector Information Holder: NHS Connecting for Health

Information Asset: NHS organisational entities as a RESTful service

The problem

The NHS is a large and complex organisation which is periodically reorganised. All NHS entities have IDs, names, addresses etc, maintained by the Organisation Data Service. However, this data is provided as a periodic collection of excel files, csv files, access databases and the like. It is difficult and confusing to navigate and the hierarchical structure of the NHS is not reflected in the data.

Prior to NHS Choices, the nhs exposed a partially populated SOAP service exporting some of this data. This no longer exists and has not been replaced by any API that I am aware of, apart from a "services near me" service from NHS Choices.

My ideal solution

A restful service allowing access to NHS organisational data (codes, names, locations including lat/long), which can be navigated as a hierarchy or in other ways (by name, location etc)

In an ideal world this would cover the UK, not just England.

What I would do

We would use this to maintain and update the representation of the NHS which we use to support Patient Opinion's hyperlocal feedback service for the NHS and patients.

Public Sector Information Holder: NHS

Information Asset: NHS Organisation IDs

The problem

I'm trying to get the NHS data into my data warehouse. I'm unable to compare it because the NHS uses OrgID and doesn't offer a translation table with addresses so I cannot place these areas roughly on a map. It's the same story with national statistics which use region 'codes' instead of postcodes.

My ideal solution

Lookup tables to be released to allow the integration of this data.

What I would do

Integrate the data into my Business Intelligence solution.

Public Sector Information Holder: NHS Information Centre

Information Asset: Headcount Information for NHS PCTs

The problem

I would like headcount information (numbers of staff) for primary care trusts.

My ideal solution

This information should be published by the NHS Information Centre in ways that enable its onward re-use, under simple licensing conditions. Why should I have to apply for a licence to re-use this information?

What I would do

Compare population figures with PCT headcount and NHS performance statistics.
