Scenario verification

When checking the data you may want to ensure the following:
  • Does it come from a reliable source? Are there errors or bias?
  • Could the data contain rounding errors?
  • Does it contain extreme values?
  • Are all comparable values in the same units?
  • Is the data used from the same period?
  • Does all the data cover the same population?

Assumptions

When checking the assumptions you may want to ensure the following:

  • Is the run duration appropriate?
  • Are the weightings appropriate?

Pathways

When checking the pathways you may want to ensure the following:

  • Is the input manager set to correctly route patients to pathways (eg knee patients to knee pathways)?
  • Is the capacity of generic shared steps correctly apportioned amongst the HRGs?

Step & waiting events

When checking the step & waiting events you may want to ensure the following have been input correctly:
  • Initial contents of wait areas
  • Waiting tolerance and options for both value and distribution type
  • Routing percentage from step events
  • Capacities of step events
  • Duration of step events for both value and distribution type

Do this if you have worked through all the above, run your simulation and still your results don’t seem right

All the above checked

If you check the above options, then the simulation is telling you something that could not be appreciated before or you were not in a position to identify
