NHS East of England will be hosting a series of ‘Focus On’ Days in conjunction with the NHS Institute and NHS Diabetes over the next three months.

Our bespoke ‘Focus On’ days will be partnered with the NHS Institute, NHS Diabetes and people who have come forward as local heroes in relation to diabetes care.

The events are designed to be multidisciplinary with the opportunity to:

  • bring along local examples of your work and or, best practice to share with your colleagues
  • learn from each other and also understand what is happening in other parts of the country in relation to care for patients who are in hospital and have diabetes
  • promote a range of products from the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and NHS Diabetes that aim to support healthcare providers.

Each event will be organised around one of six central themes.

The themes for the ‘Focus on’ events are:

  •       Improving the patient experience with ThinkGlucose                          5th January 2011

By understanding what ThinkGlucose means to our patients who have diabetes, provides us with a deeper shared experience that in turn helps to inform our practice for patients. In this one day event we will introduce our NHS Institute tools and techniques on patient experience, for service improvement and commissioning.

  • Getting started with ThinkGlucose                                                             13th January 2011

An introduction to implementing ThinkGlucose for those Trusts who are just starting their programme (or those who are yet to begin). As part of this event, delegates will understand the key principles of successful delivery and of delivering the highest quality of care to patients and how to further collaborate in readiness with the new commissioning opportunities.

  • Knowing how we are doing                                                                         19th January 2011

The theme of this event is to understand why measurement is important and how to undertake it practically so that delegates can take away action points for their own Trust.

  • Safe use of insulin                                                                                          3rd February 2011

This event will focus on ThinkGlucose in relation to safe use of insulin in hospital settings, building on the essentials of evidenced based care. For more information on the Safe use of insulin please visit

  •  The whole pathway                                                                                             3rd March 2011

This event focuses on diabetes care in the community and provides delegates with the opportunity to understand local variation, constraints in the system and opportunities so that goals can be realised.

  • Developing and promoting local ThinkGlucose heroes                            8th March 2011

Developing and sharing the ThinkGlucose campaign and experience is crucial in healthcare delivery and this provides delegates the opportunity to explore and test out new ways of making change happen at scale and pace.
