Public spending budgetary data and spending by function are published annually in Chapters 1 and 4 of Public Expenditure Statistical Analyses (PESA). Key public spending budgetary and functional series are updated at three other times of the year through the Public Spending Annual Outturns News Release . The latest budgetary and functional data, and all Chapters of PESA are available in excel and comma separated variables formats below. These downloads incorporate the corrections to tables 10.3 and 1.5 described below.

(1) Some of the data in this chapter will be updated throughout the year as National Statistics updates in public expenditure outturns news releases.

When we discover larger errors we explain this and then publish the corrected PDFs here and correct the downloadable data. We do not correct the original PDFs above.

Revision to table 10.3

Sub-functions under fives and primary schools have been combined under pre-primary and primary education. Due to the way under fives education is funded in Wales, it is difficult to split expenditure between 'under fives' and 'primary schools' accurately, therefore we have merged the presentation of the two lines in this country by sub-function table. Readers should use this presentation rather than the separate lines shown in PESA 2007 table 10.3.

Revision to table 1.5

Resource DEL outturn for the Cabinet Office departmental group in 2005-06 should be £2,234m rather than the originally published £2,734m. This is corrected both in the pdf file below and the above downloadable data section.

Revision to chapters 9 and 10

There is a small error in the Scotland figures affecting tables 9.1 to 9.12, 9.15 to 9.17, and 10.1 to 10.3. These figures incorrectly include criminal injuries compensation administration spending totalling about £30m in 2006-07 and 2007-08 and less than £5m in 2001-02 to 2005-06. This spending should be allocated to other regions and will be corrected for PESA 2008.

Revision to table 6.5

The split of the sub-function '10.4 Family and children' into 'Personal social services' and 'Family benefits, income support and tax credits' and the split of the sub-function '10.5 Unemployment' into 'Personal social services' and 'Other unemployment benefits' were both transposed when initially published. This has been corrected (along with the 'Personal social services' total) in the attached pdf and in the downloadable data above.
