Mick Walker, Executive Director of Education, response to Ofqual's monitoring report: 2009 key stage 2 tests

19 July 2010

"We are pleased that Ofqual has recognised QCDA's considerable success in delivering last year's national curriculum tests.

Ofqual highlighted areas of good practice and made some suggestions for improvements.  We had already identified many of the recommendations through our own self-assessment and, where possible, these were incorporated into this year's test cycle.

We continually seek to improve our systems and processes, and this is demonstrated in the success of this year's test delivery, with 100% of results delivered to schools on time.

We will continue to work with Ofqual, teaching unions and the Department for Education to improve the test system, making sure it accurately reflects children's achievements at the end of their primary education."
