The Equalities Review
Fairness and Freedom: The Final Report of the Equalities Review
Fairness and Freedom: The Final Report of the Equalities Review was
published on 28 February 2007. The Panel is extremely grateful to all who
have contributed over the course of the Review.
The Equalities Review was established to carry out an investigation into
the causes of persistent discrimination and inequality in British society.
The Review, which was independent, was chaired by Trevor Phillips
in a personal capacity. He was supported by a Review Panel comprising:
-
Sir Robert Kerslake
-
Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas
In addition, there was a Review Team comprised of civil servants drawn
from departments across government.
Parallel to the Equalities Review, Communities and Local Government (CLG)
is working on a review to assess how anti-discrimination legislation can be
modernised to fit the needs of Britain in the 21st century. More
information about the Discrimination Law Review is available on the
CLG's Women & Equality
Unit [External website] webpage.
A wider reference group of equality stakeholders and experts, co-chaired by
the Chair of the Disability Rights Commission and the Chair of the Equal
Opportunities Commission, provide independent advice and input to both the
Equalities Review and the Discrimination Law Review.
On the day of publication Ruth Kelly, Communities Minister, welcomed the
Review and said that the Government would formally respond to the Review in
Autumn 2007.
