Help in setting up a charity

While we consider completed applications we can not advise you on setting up your charity or advise you if it is the right decision for your organisation.

Our website provides specific guidance to help you complete your application. It includes the Types of charity that do not have to register, Registration process, finding trustees, how to demonstrate public benefit and choosing your charity’s name, purposes and governing document.

You may be able to get information and guidance from the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) or find a local organisation to help you via the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA).  The Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) may be able to help similarly for charities based in Wales.

Organisations may also wish to consult a professional advisor when they are considering applying for charitable status. The Charity Law Association (CLA) may be able to help you identify a legal firm with expertise in Charity law in your area.
