G20 meeting, London, 4/5 September 2009

As G20 Chair, the UK Government and the Chancellor Alistair Darling, welcomes delegates to HM Treasury this coming weekend for the second meeting this year of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors.

The first meeting, held in Horsham near Sussex in April this year, prepared the ground for the London Summit in April, chaired by the Prime Minister and will be held in advance of the Pittsburgh Summit in September, to be chaired by President Obama.

This weekend’s meeting will seek to build on the momentum achieved at the April London summit and the commitment to tackle the global downturn with a global solution.

This ministerial meeting will be the first of this scale to be held at HM Treasury since the G7 countries met in January 2005.

Throughout this week a number of meetings are taking place at the Treasury, including G20 Deputies meeting, in the build up to the G20 meeting.

Further information about the G20 can be found on the G20 website.
